Who has tried Indonesian food? Some of you may have heard of or tasted rendang, nasi goreng, and satay. Yes, of course, this is the Indonesian cuisine that a few years ago became popular in the world. As CNN articles in 2015 about 50 Delicious Foods in the World, these three cuisines were chosen in it. However, Indonesian cuisine is not just those three, there are some cuisines that are recommended to be tasted. Some of the cuisines that will be served here are not completely “unknown” or “new” to Indonesia, but this means that some of the cuisines here are not widely known by people outside Indonesia. We hope to give you new information related to Indonesian cuisine. So what are they?

The first is Soto. Soto is a cuisine that uses chicken or beef as the main ingredient and mixed with sauce made from different types of spices. The sauce is yellow in colour. Soto is similar to a stew that contains meat, potato chips, fried onions, and knotweed. In addition, it is always served with a plate of rice and krupuk.

The second is Raon. Basically, it’s almost the same with Soto. However, Rawon has always used beef instead of chicken meat. The other feature on the sauce is the black colour. The black color sauce is taken from kluak, one of the spices which is the main ingredient of raun. Like soto, Rawon is always served with a plate of rice and karupuk.

The third is baksu or better known as meatballs. In fact, meatballs are not the original cuisine from Indonesia, but also from China. However, the Indonesian people modified it and made it different from the original. In Indonesia, baksu or meatballs are not only served with meat formed into a ball but also with other items, such as tofu, siomai, noodles, siomai fried and mixed in a bowl with meat broth.

Next is Lalapan or in some places it is called Pecel Lele or Penyetan. This cuisine is associated with sambal or hot sauce. Sambal is made from chilies, onions, tomatoes, salt and fermented shrimp. Sambel or hot sauce is always served with different kinds of side dishes, such as fried catfish, fried chicken, fried mushroom, fried tofu, tempeh and so on. In addition, it is served with some vegetables such as cucumber, tomato, basil, and lettuce. As an Indonesian cuisine, of course, it is also served with a plate of rice.

Next is Gado-Gado. did you hear that? Maybe this is strange to you. This cuisine is known as Javanese salad. Basically, this cuisine is almost the same with salads in some countries. However, this cuisine is different from the common salad, and it has special characteristics. This cuisine contains lettuce, cucumber, tomato, cabbage, beans, boiled egg, boiled potato, fried tempeh, fried tofu, wontong (steamed rice in banana leaves), impeng (milengo chips) and mixed with our signature sauce, peanut sauce. ( bandage). It is very tasty and, of course, very healthy.

And the last one is Pecel. This cuisine is also spread in Indonesia. As in Gado-Gado, it is also called Javanese Salad. So, what are the differences between these two? Pecel is always served with rice, and not for long. The different vegetables used in Pecel are not as many as in Gado-Gado. It is limited to cabbage, beans, cucumbers, spinach and bean sprouts. No boiled potatoes, boiled eggs on Pecel. Pecel is also enjoyed with rempeyek (a thin slice made of flour) instead of impinge. And of course the peanut sauce is different. Pecel peanut sauce is spicier than Gado-Gado. Try it for yourself to find out what are the differences between these two cuisines. They have the same name but different tastes.

Finally, some of the above-mentioned cuisines are Indonesian cuisines that are widespread in Indonesia. This means that you can find it everywhere if you visit Indonesia. Moreover, this cuisine is popular in Indonesia, but not to the world like Rendang, Nasi Goreng or Satay. We hope that it will give you new information about the “unknown” Indonesian cuisine that is recommended to be tasted. Try it and you will love it.
