Polish pottery answers common questions

What is Polish pottery?

You’ve seen them online, you’ve seen them on QVC, and you’ve probably seen select pieces in stores or magazines. What is each pivoting around and what in the world?

What is this?

Polish pottery is earthenware pottery made by hand and decorated by hand with stamps. Products range from dinnerware sets, serving pieces, bakeware, bowls, containers, and tea and coffee services to accessories such as vases, jugs, and cookie jars, to name a few. What makes it special is the beautiful hand stamped designs.

Polish farmers created these traditional designs inspired by a peacock feather. Using cobalt blue, peacock blue and earthy colors added beauty and color to a minimalist, minimalist lifestyle. Over the years, the technique of using stencils by hand to create designs has become an art form passed on to new generations.

Is it just for show or can I really use it?

Definitely use it! They are some of the best stoneware cooking utensils I have ever used. I have cooked pancakes, lasagna, casseroles, and various other meals in it. The cooking with this crock far exceeded my expectations. Another plus is that I don’t need to transfer the meal to another “pretty” dish for serving.

A friend of mine asked his wife to buy him some coffee cups because they kept his coffee warm for so long.

Is it safe?

Each casserole dish is made of white clay and is lead and cadmium free. Pottery can be used in dishwashers, conventional ovens, and microwave ovens. It is also easy to clean.

Important! – Each piece has a category at the bottom. Class 1 pottery is oven safe to 425°F and Class 2 oven safe to 325°F. Class 3 and above must be used for submission only.

where was it made?

The pottery was made in Boleslawiek, about an hour and a half drive from Dresden, Germany. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit as you can buy pottery for less than half the retail price in the US, and there are so many styles to choose from. However, I would advise against driving your own car or rental car. I found the city relatively safe except for the constant car thefts. You can either hire a driver or take a bus trip. The town has shops all over the world including the factory where the pottery is made.

Where can I get it?

Fortunately, for those who do not have access to Boleslawiec, it can be found on the Internet. One note of caution: shipping from Poland can be expensive and may result in damage to goods. Use a site like http://polish-pottery.getdigitalinfo.com It allows you to find lots that are available to you locally. For those of you from the States, you can sometimes find Polish pottery pieces at stores like TJMaxx, Marshall’s, and Tuesday Morning.

Final thoughts

The pottery is not only beautiful for any table, it is also of great quality. You can stick to one pattern, mix and match patterns or just accessorize with your existing dishes. In addition, glazed pottery is a universal collectible that retains its value after purchase. It is definitely pottery that you will want to pass on to your kids. Whatever your need, I highly recommend you to give it a try.
